🛣️Casper Career Trek🛣️

JOIN US for our Casper Career Trek!

We have FOUR industry groups this year: Accounting, Finance/Econ, Management, and Marketing! Students are grouped by industry to create tours and discussions tailored to their career interests. If you have multiple majors, you will have the opportunity on the registration form (button to your right on the screen!) to share your group preferences!

So far, there are a DOZEN businesses – as well as UW Alumni and elected officials – who are hosting or joining us for these two days! We always try to create a thoughtful schedule for our students to maximize this opportunity!

How much is this? It is ABSOLUTELY FREE to our College of Business students! You simply need to register and commit to attending, as transportation/lodging planning depends on reliable commitment!

DRESS CODE:

Dress code for the trek is Business Casual. We encourage you to wear comfortable shoes. A reminder that all costs are covered by the College of Business (with the exception of any alcohol and outside activities not included in the final agenda).

TIMES & AGENDA:

We will be leaving at 8am on Thursday, October 22nd from the Purple Lot (north intersection of Armory Road and 30th Street) to head to Casper. Please be dressed to do some company visits when we arrive. We will do one company visit, lunch with True companies, another company visit, and an activity/tour at the WYO Sports Ranch. Dinner will be provided that evening with local elected officials, alumni, and some legislators.

Friday (October 23rd) morning, we will kick off the day with a coffee hour, then group by major for various company visits. Lunch will be provided. The afternoon will cover one more company visit.

We expect to leave Casper between 2 and 3pm, which would put us back in Laramie around 4:30-5:30pm.

We will send out a final agenda the week before the event!!

STUDENT PREPARATION:

Once you have the final agenda with the companies listed, it’s smart to do some preliminary research! We also recommend that you create/update your LinkedIn profiles, in case you make a genuine connection during the several networking opportunities on this trip.

Speaking of LinkedIn, this is a great opportunity for you to practice creating career-related posts:

  1. Pre-CareerTrek – (week of) – follow a few of the companies on your schedule, engage with posts that interest you.
  2. During Trek – TAKE PHOTOS, ask permission to post/tag, and connect on LinkedIn with professionals you have met.
  3. After Trek – create thoughtful post describing the experience, how it impacted you, and thank the participating companies by tagging.
